Kinshasa, DRC – The eight years long trial in the murder of UN experts Zaida Catalán and Michael Sharp is expected to end soon. With a final verdict expected in the coming days, a coalition of human rights activists is sounding the alarm in the DRC.
A statement released both in French and English by the Congolese Association for the Defense of the Right to Truth in Memory of Innocent Civilian Victims (ACDDV) expressed concern over delays, procedural issues, and mismanagement of evidence experienced in the past eight years.
The Association pleads for a fair and credible verdict, in accordance with international law, that will serve as a lesson to those who violate human rights. The Coalition led by Richie Lontungu insisted that justice in the case is going to be served on behalf of Zaida Catalan and Michael Sharp, but also on behalf of all the victims of the Kamwena Nsapu tragedy in Kasaï.
